Contracts called government-wide acquisition contracts are agreements between more than one government agency to purchase goods and services. The government benefits from economies of scale when it purchases items on a government-wide basis (GWAC). Most often, these contracts are used for the purchase of new technology, including computers. Government agencies can benefit from innovative IT solutions at a lower cost to taxpayers. A contract of this kind may be spearheaded by one agency, with the hope that other agencies will follow suit. Agencies are required to justify new GWACs to reduce the number of contracts they issue.
